ISTANBUL: Iran鈥檚 plans to supply Russia with weapons including drones and ballistic missiles in its war against Ukraine are 鈥渦nacceptable,鈥 NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday.
Kyiv and its Western allies accuse Iran of supplying drones to Russia.
鈥淲e see Iran offering drones and considering ballistic missile deliveries to Russia,鈥 Stoltenberg told a news conference in Istanbul.
鈥淭his is unacceptable. No country should provide support to Moscow in this illegal war.鈥
Kyiv has said around 400 Iranian drones have already been used against the civilian population of Ukraine, and Moscow has ordered around 2,000.
Tehran has rejected the allegation.
Stoltenberg added Russian President Vladimir Putin was failing in Ukraine, but 鈥渞esponding with more brutality.鈥
鈥淚n recent weeks, we have seen dozens of drone and missile strikes across Ukraine. Including on critical infrastructure,鈥 he added.
Russia is 鈥渃ruelly and deliberately depriving Ukrainian civilians of heating, water and electricity at the outset of winter,鈥 Stoltenberg said.
